A medical evaluation is a basic diagnostic appointment in which your doctor will assess your overall level of health in order to identify the root causes of any symptoms and make an informed decision on the best potential treatment options. This can include a physical examination, review of medical history, and further diagnostic tests such as x-rays and other imaging procedures.
You should be prepared to provide your doctor with as detailed a medical history as possible including medications taken, vaccinations received, and relevant family history. There are some tests that may require you to avoid eating anything for two hours or more before the appointment, but otherwise little preparation is required.
A medical evaluation is important to getting up-to-date information about your current level of health and identifying any potential problem areas. An evaluation may be called for in order to find the root of specific symptoms or just to check up on overall health.
You will tell your doctor about any unusual symptoms you are experiencing and discuss your medical history, as well as habits, lifestyle, and family medical history. A physical exam will be performed, and additional chemical or imaging tests may also be required. The length of your appointment will vary depending on which specific tests are being performed.
There is no recovery time for a medical evaluation and you should be able to drive yourself home right after your appointment. It is recommended that everyone get examined once a year after the age of 50 and at least every three years prior to that
There are no major risks associated with getting a medicalevaluation. It is possible that the findings of the exam may unearth a health problem which causes fear or anxiety, but the risks of an issue going undiagnosed are of far greater concern.
